A single crow flies over a harvested corn field at dusk, straight to its murder, the place it calls home. This one was inspired by a trip back home to Indiana, this particular cornfield is behind my childhood best friend’s parents’ house, the nostalgia was so palpable it had to be painted. Even as an adult I was jumpy when I heard a distant tractor turn on. Memory is tricky but I remember that same tractor chasing us away as kids. If you’re from the Midwest, you probably also have core memories associated with a particular cornfield and thoughts that made you anxious when you were in them. Cheers.
